IDUKKI DAM KERALA FLOODS AS L3 LEVEL DISASTER
INTRODUCTION OF KERALA FLOODS AND IDUKKI DAM :-
IDUKKI DAM:-
IDUKKI DAM:-
Idukki Dam is one of the biggest double curved arc dam in Asia which is built in the Periyar river (IDUKKI DISTRICT). It is manufactured and owned by the Kerala State Electricity Board. It supports the 780 MW hydro electric power station in Mulmattam. This dam was built with two other dams in Cheruthony and Kulamavu. Together, the three dams have formed an artificial lake which is 60 km² in the area. The water level kept rising in Idukki dam even after opening the first sluice gate which lead to the opening of all five gates . OPERATIONS TO HELP :- Southern Naval Command in Kochi has rescued people trapped in flood-hit areas of Kerala as part of the "Operation Help"(MADAD AND SAHYOG OPERATIONS) of the Indian Navy for the rain and landslide state. Indian Army also launched a major rescue and relief operation in Kerala. Kerala is facing the worst flood in 100 years. The state had never seen the disaster of this scale before. 80 dams opened, 300+ lives were lost and 2,25,000+ people were in about 1500+ relief camps. Please join us in rescue and recovery. REASON FOR FLOOD:-
An extraordinary southwest monsoon in Kerala has highlighted floods and landslides in the state, whose magnitude is rarely seen in memory recently. The situation described as unprecedented by Chief Minister Pinaray Vijayan is considered to be a violent flood of 1924 when the situation is not severely serious. With the Armed Forces, the Central and the State Administration are working with all hands in all the 14 districts so that they can save thousands of people stranded in their homes.
