IDUKKI DAM KERALA FLOODS AS L3 LEVEL DISASTER
INTRODUCTION OF KERALA FLOODS AND IDUKKI DAM :- IDUKKI DAM:- Idukki Dam is one of the biggest double curved arc dam in Asia which is built in the Periyar river (IDUKKI DISTRICT). It is manufactured and owned by the Kerala State Electricity Board. It supports the 780 MW hydro electric power station in Mulmattam. This dam was built with two other dams in Cheruthony and Kulamavu. Together, the three dams have formed an artificial lake which is 60 km² in the area. The water level kept rising in Idukki dam even after opening the first sluice gate which lead to the opening of all five gates . OPERATIONS TO HELP :- Southern Naval Command in Kochi has rescued people trapped in flood-hit areas of Kerala as part of the "Operation Help"(MADAD AND SAHYOG OPERATIONS) of the Indian Navy for the rain and landslide state. Indian Army also launched a major rescue and relief operation in Kerala .
